The Ritual Coffee Cafe Manager is the enthusiastic, professional, and organized leader that ensures our cafe is always running smoothly and our baristas feel supported. RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead a team of approximately 10-15 retail employees, including Assistant Manager, Shift Leads, a Coffee Educator and Baristas

• Contribute to the overall culture and business growth using our Culture Guide as a tool for self-reflection and an ongoing commitment to self-growth, the growth in others, and the growth of the company.

• Contribute to the overall culture and business growth by participating in or leading improvement committees and projects when needed.

• Hire people who are a great fit for Ritual and anticipate hiring needs of your cafe.

• Train and develop café staff to be knowledgeable and provide great customer service.

• Be a great leader and role model of our culture in your cafe and an ambassador for Ritual in the community.

• Observe employees and prepare for giving meaningful, supportive regular feedback. 

• Conduct timely reviews and deliver direct and compassionate  feedback, both positive and constructive, and provide tools for baristas to grow during their time at Ritual. 

• Work with the leadership team to develop and implement standards for Ritual’s culture, values, quality and customer service.

• Retail café customers are consistently served delicious coffee to our quality and service standards.

• Demonstrate Ritual’s standards for customer service, ensure that all cafe employees are supported to provide that.

• Work with the Head of Training to ensure that standards are upheld in cafes and that the caliber of training is sufficient for the cafe to excel. 

• Our cafe is profitable and contributes to the sustainability of Ritual and our communities – both locally and globally. 

• Monitor and analyze sales and profitability of the café, be able to cost individual items to maintain established margins.

• Work with the Retail Operations Manager to ensure that all items and tax settings are accurate in the POS system.

• Oversee cashier functions, including ensuring that items are rung up accurately, and cash handling, including monitoring over/short and deposits.

• Set ambitious but achievable goals for each quarter that fit into the outcomes for your position, are in line with overall goals for your cafe, and for Ritual.

• Understand how to manage labor, cost of goods, and controllable expenses to contribute to a sustainable bottom line, while making decisions in keeping with Ritual’s values.

• The Ritual Hayes Valley cafe is clean, beautiful and safe, providing both employees and customers with a fun, inclusive environment.

• Create and maintain a program for preventative maintenance, ensuring that equipment, furniture and café spaces are maintained and updated regularly to prevent them from getting worn down, dated, or falling into disrepair.

• Contribute ideas to keeping the café fun and fresh.

• Build teams, systems, and processes to ensure the cafe always runs smoothly in spite of inevitable surprises.

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Minimum 1-2 years experience in a cafe leadership role

• Proven experience building healthy and inclusive diverse teams

• An approachable people-person with a high level of emotional intelligence, patience, compassion and problem solving skills

• Excellent communication and teaching skills, able to engage and inspire professional growth

• Infectious love of coffee

• Proficiency with Google Drive, spreadsheets and general comfort with use of technology

• Availability: on-call for emergencies, ability to be on site at cafe when urgently needed

• Must be authorized to work in the United States (Required)

• High level of manual dexterity to adeptly type and use computer equipment.

• Occasional Travel may be required.

COMPENSATION + BENEFITS

Each quarter, Cafe Managers are eligible for performance based bonuses. 

CLASSIFICATION & SUPERVISION

• This is a regular, full-time, exempt position.

• The Cafe Manager will be expected to work at least one weekend day per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Be a key player on the Ritual leadership team

Lead and develop the Marketing Department

• Directly supervise a team of 2-4 people and help support their growth and development

• Conduct regular supervision meetings and bi-annual reviews to deliver timely, direct, and compassionate feedback, both positive and constructive, and provide tools for employees to grow during their time at Ritual

Develop, plan, and implement holistic branding initiatives and marketing strategies for each segment of the business: Retail, Wholesale and E-Commerce

• Collaborate with Founder/CEO to develop branding initiatives and marketing strategies aligned with company values and goals 

• Collaborate with Director of Coffee to develop new and creative ways to tell the stories of the coffees and the producers behind the coffees

• Utilize website content, packaging, social media, press releases and newsletter to communicate brand identity and achieve marketing objectives

• Periodically audit packaging, signage, visual merchandising, website and social media to ensure Ritual’s visual presence represents our evolving identity

• Collaborate with Brand Manager and Digital Marketing Specialist to plan and execute written, visual, and social media marketing campaigns 

• Collaborate with Director of Sales and Business Development and Retail Operations Manager to coordinate special events, projects, signage and promotional opportunities

Make strategic decisions to ensure our Marketing campaigns are financially sound and driving sales 

• Work with Founder/CEO to create a manageable Marketing Budget including photography, merchandise, and special projects

• Analyze campaign performance, examining interaction metrics and sales 

• Keep up to date with emerging marketing and design trends in the coffee industry, ensuring our brand presence is fresh and innovative 

QUALIFICATIONS 

• Minimum 2 years experience with planning and executing marketing campaigns, preferably for a consumer packaged goods, a food and beverage brand, or e-commerce

• An approachable people-person with a high level of emotional intelligence, patience, compassion and problem solving skills

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Experience and passion for brand work through an equity and justice lens

• Design experience with Adobe Suite

• Proficiency across core technologies including Microsoft Office and Google Drive

• Strong attention to detail

• Passion for visual merchandising

• Infectious love of coffee a plus

• Experience with social media marketing

COMPENSATION + BENEFITS

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The Ritual Coffee Catering Lead is the organized, flexible, and enthusiastic cafe team member that collaborates with oversight from the Catering Manager to ensure our catering events run smoothly and fulfill the mission of Ritual’s Catering & Events department – to provide people with the best coffee experience they’ve ever had, in new and unusual settings, without the benefit of the infrastructure of a cafe.  

Ritual’s Catering department brings the quality and experience of a Ritual coffee bar to any setting you can imagine - event spaces, conferences, vineyards, offices, and backyards. 

The Catering Lead works proactively with the Catering Manager by working in catering for up to 40 hours a week. This position may work dynamically between shifts in the cafe and event related work. Event work includes but not limited to: managing the catering inbox, managing operations at specified events, work as a barista, and act as the primary or secondary point-person for clients and employees on-site. These hours can be fluid, and may sometimes require overtime. This role will include very early and very late shifts.The Catering Lead represents Ritual Coffee and is expected to demonstrate a high level of hospitality and customer service at all times alongside excellent bar skills and maintain Ritual Coffee standards with tenured and temporary staff at events.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with the Catering Manager to support and grow Ritual’s Catering program

• Contribute to the overall culture and business growth using our Culture Guide as a tool for self-reflection and an ongoing commitment to self-growth, the growth in others, and the growth of the company

• Fulfill all catering and cafe barista duties consistent with the expectations of Catering Manager and job description

• Collaborate with Catering and Cafe Managers on scheduling in order to support catering while also meeting the needs of the cafe schedule

• Manage operations at assigned events--including setting up, loading and operating Ritual’s catering equipment

Support the planning, execution, and management of catering events with the catering manager

• Maintaining consistent communication with the Catering Manager leading up to and during events

• Uphold and enforce Ritual’s coffee and beverage quality standards at events

• As needed, plan events and consider all relevant logistics: scheduling, sourcing, staffing and menu development

• Communicate efficiently and thoroughly with baristas, clients, partners, and vendors

• Ensure that tools, equipment and inventory are organized and event-ready 

• Manage load-in, set-up, operation of Ritual’s catering equipment, and break down during events

• Maintain the catering inbox and inquiries as needed

Help maintain a clean, organized space at the Ritual warehouse  

• Ensure that post-event clean up happens in a timely manner and that all equipment and goods are restocked and ready for use at the next catering event

• Keep catering supplies organized and inventoried while in storage

• Maintain coffee brewing equipment and Catering area, keeping the machinery and space clean and functional

• Maintain friendly relationships with all vendors, placing and receiving orders as needed

• Report any malfunctioning pieces of the catering equipment to the catering manager

 QUALIFICATIONS 

• Minimum 1 year experience in a cafe, foodservice, or similar role

• An approachable people-person with a high level of emotional intelligence, patience, compassion and problem solving skills

• Excellent communication and teaching skills

• Love of coffee!

• Proficiency with Google Drive, spreadsheets and general comfort with use of technology

• Availability: flexible to accommodate for the nature of events while maintaining scheduled shifts in cafes, on-call for emergencies, ability to be on site at events

• Must be authorized to work in the United States (Required)

• Clean driving record and valid DL (Required)

COMPENSATION + BENEFITS

Ritual Coffee is seeking a hard-working and enthusiastic barista to create experiences that change the way people know coffee. We are looking for that special someone who is dedicated to customer service, teamwork, and quality who has a flexible schedule and the ability to blend seamlessly into various roles in the cafe. To be a PT/Flex barista you must be willing to help cover shifts as needed in the Napa cafe each month, as well as working occasional catering events throughout the year. 

As a PT/Flex barista, you do not need to know our exact systems and techniques before you start, but you need to be self-aware and humble – able to jump in, be helpful and problem-solve where needed. People who do not take initiative, who are not customer oriented, not open to feedback, nor passionate about coffee need not apply. You are meant for this role if you are a team player with a strong interest in and appreciation for coffee quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES

With direct supervision and training support, PT/Flex Baristas are expected to: 

• Contribute to the overall culture and business growth using our Culture Guide as a tool for self-reflection and an ongoing commitment to self-growth, the growth in others, and the growth of the company

• Communicate promptly and clearly with the Catering Department and Cafe Managers about their ability to work shifts when requested.

• Ensure that our customers have positive interactions and are consistently served delicious coffee to our quality standards

• Availability for at least one weekend day each week.

• Stay knowledgeable about all cafe offerings, including drinks, beans, brew equipment, and Ritual via remaining up to date with current postings on the basecamp platform.

• Be proactive within the coffee bar team to anticipate needs, prevent problems, and maintain smooth operations

• Follow all employee and cafe operations policies, including but not limited to: cash handling, scheduling and feedback processes

• Help keep the cafe clean, beautiful and safe, providing both employees and customers with a fun, inclusive environment

• Flex Baristas are expected to respond to every direct request to work within 48 hours.

OVERVIEW

Ritual Coffee is seeking a hard-working and enthusiastic barista to create experiences that change the way people know coffee. We are looking for that special someone who is dedicated to customer service, teamwork, and quality who has a flexible schedule and the ability to blend seamlessly into various roles in the cafe. To be a PT/Flex barista you must be willing to help cover shifts as needed in our San Francisco cafes each month, as well as working occasional catering events throughout the year. 

As a PT/Flex barista, you do not need to know our exact systems and techniques before you start, but you need to be self-aware and humble – able to jump in, be helpful and problem-solve where needed. People who do not take initiative, who are not customer oriented, not open to feedback, nor passionate about coffee need not apply. You are meant for this role if you are a team player with a strong interest in and appreciation for coffee quality.
